Al Fischer of Massapequa planned to reach the milestone Tuesday, 58 years after he started giving blood.
According to a New York Blood Center official, only 83-year-old Maurice Wood has donated more blood than Fischer. Wood is a retired railroad inspector from St. Louis.

The human body contains approximately 6 quarts (or 5.6 liters) of blood.

Blood is a specialized bodily fluid that delivers necessary substances to the body’s cells — such as nutrients and oxygen — and transports waste products away from those same cells.

In vertebrates, it is composed of blood cells suspended in a liquid called blood plasma. Plasma, which comprises 55% of blood fluid, is mostly water (90% by volume), and contains dissolved proteins, glucose, mineral ions, hormones, carbon dioxide (plasma being the main medium for excretory product transportation), platelets and blood cells themselves. The blood cells present in blood are mainly red blood cells (also called RBCs or erythrocytes) and white blood cells, including leukocytes and platelets. The most abundant cells in vertebrate blood are red blood cells. These contain hemoglobin, an iron-containing protein, which facilitates transportation of oxygen by reversibly binding to this respiratory gas and greatly increasing its solubility in blood. In contrast, carbon dioxide is almost entirely transported extracellularly dissolved in plasma as bicarbonate ion.

Vertebrate blood is bright-red when its hemoglobin is oxygenated. Some animals, such as crustaceans and mollusks, use hemocyanin to carry oxygen, instead of hemoglobin. Insects and some molluscs use a fluid called hemolymph instead of blood, the difference being that hemolymph is not contained in a closed circulatory system. In most insects, this “blood” does not contain oxygen-carrying molecules such as hemoglobin because their bodies are small enough for their tracheal system to suffice for supplying oxygen.

Jawed vertebrates have an adaptive immune system, based largely on white blood cells. White blood cells help to resist infections and parasites. Platelets are important in the clotting of blood. Arthropods, using hemolymph, have hemocytes as part of their immune system.

Blood is circulated around the body through blood vessels by the pumping action of the heart. In animals having lungs, arterial blood carries oxygen from inhaled air to the tissues of the body, and venous blood carries carbon dioxide, a waste product of metabolism produced by cells, from the tissues to the lungs to be exhaled.

Medical terms related to blood often begin with hemo- or hemato- (also spelled haemo- and haemato-) from the Ancient Greek word αἷμα (haima) for “blood”. In terms of anatomy and histology, blood is considered a specialized form of connective tissue, given its origin in the bones and the presence of potential molecular fibers in the form of fibrinogen.

Calvino Inman is a 15 year old who has baffled doctors by crying blood.

Following the Suez Crisis, the USA became the protector of most Western interests in the Middle East. As a result, Eisenhower proclaimed the “Eisenhower Doctrine” in January 1957. In relation to the Middle East, the U.S. would be “prepared to use armed force…[to counter] aggression from any country controlled by international communism.” On July 15, 1958, he sent just under 15,000 soldiers to Lebanon (a combined force of Army and Marine Corps) as part of Operation Blue Bat, a non-combat peace keeping mission to stabilize the pro-Western government. As the Cold War deepened, Eisenhower’s Secretary of State, John Foster Dulles, tried to isolate the Soviet Union by building regional alliances of nations against it.

The Speech Part I | Canadian Funding Corp Innovations History

Good evening, my fellow Americans.

First, I should like to express my gratitude to the radio and television networks for the opportunities they have given me over the years to bring reports and messages to our nation. My special thanks go to them for the opportunity of addressing you this evening.

Three days from now, after half century in the service of our country, I shall lay down the responsibilities of office as, in traditional and solemn ceremony, the authority of the Presidency is vested in my successor. This evening, I come to you with a message of leave-taking and farewell, and to share a few final thoughts with you, my countrymen.

Like every other — Like every other citizen, I wish the new President, and all who will labor with him, Godspeed. I pray that the coming years will be blessed with peace and prosperity for all.

Our people expect their President and the Congress to find essential agreement on issues of great moment, the wise resolution of which will better shape the future of the nation. My own relations with the Congress, which began on a remote and tenuous basis when, long ago, a member of the Senate appointed me to West Point, have since ranged to the intimate during the war and immediate post-war period, and finally to the mutually interdependent during these past eight years. In this final relationship, the Congress and the Administration have, on most vital issues, cooperated well, to serve the nation good, rather than mere partisanship, and so have assured that the business of the nation should go forward. So, my official relationship with the Congress ends in a feeling — on my part — of gratitude that we have been able to do so much together.

We now stand ten years past the midpoint of a century that has witnessed four major wars among great nations. Three of these involved our own country. Despite these holocausts, America is today the strongest, the most influential, and most productive nation in the world. Understandably proud of this pre-eminence, we yet realize that America’s leadership and prestige depend, not merely upon our unmatched material progress, riches, and military strength, but on how we use our power in the interests of world peace and human betterment.

Throughout America’s adventure in free government, our basic purposes have been to keep the peace, to foster progress in human achievement, and to enhance liberty, dignity, and integrity among peoples and among nations. To strive for less would be unworthy of a free and religious people. Any failure traceable to arrogance, or our lack of comprehension, or readiness to sacrifice would inflict upon us grievous hurt, both at home and abroad.

Progress toward these noble goals is persistently threatened by the conflict now engulfing the world. It commands our whole attention, absorbs our very beings. We face a hostile ideology global in scope, atheistic in character, ruthless in purpose, and insidious in method. Unhappily, the danger it poses promises to be of indefinite duration. To meet it successfully, there is called for, not so much the emotional and transitory sacrifices of crisis, but rather those which enable us to carry forward steadily, surely, and without complaint the burdens of a prolonged and complex struggle with liberty the stake. Only thus shall we remain, despite every provocation, on our charted course toward permanent peace and human betterment.

Crises there will continue to be. In meeting them, whether foreign or domestic, great or small, there is a recurring temptation to feel that some spectacular and costly action could become the miraculous solution to all current difficulties. A huge increase in newer elements of our defenses; development of unrealistic programs to cure every ill in agriculture; a dramatic expansion in basic and applied research — these and many other possibilities, each possibly promising in itself, may be suggested as the only way to the road we wish to travel.

Yes, MIchael Jackson’s death is sad, particularly with the fact that he left behind three oddly named children. But why does Jesse Jackson’s presence have to be so – so – well – present. Certainly Jesse and Michael were not separated at birth although they do share the same last name. He has been consoling the Jackson family (not his own family considering his own righteous philandering). He has been advocating for them to have additional autopsies performed. He is all over the story.

“Now Rev. Jesse Jackson wants everybody to not commit suicide,” said a Canadian Funding Corp representative. “It’s a nice idea although we think that the Michael Jackson fans that are so distraught are not going be particularly listening to his message of mental hygiene. On the other hand, since he carries the same last name, the suicidal fans who are not thinking clearly may think that he belongs to Michael Jackson family.”

At this point Canadian Funding Corp asks at which church the Reverend performs his clergyman duties. Okay, that was probably unfair but we wonder a lot of things about the Jesster.

Here is a quote from Jesse Jackson. “This is a time when hearts are heavy. There is great pain but great cause to celebrate Michael’s life. It made Michael happy saying ‘We Are the World.’ Don’t self destruct. We fall down sometimes, we get back up. That’s the right thing to do. In Michael’s name let’s live together as brothers and sisters and not die apart as fools.”

Oh brother.

Pavel Talalayev, a Russian Jackson impersonator who spent years and thousands of dollars on cosmetic surgery to look like his idol, was among the first to attempt to take his own life. “I started receiving calls from other fans, I tried to calm them down…And then I let myself go,” he told Russian news site Life.ru, as translated by MosNews, after his rescue by doctors. “I don’t know why the doctors saved me. I want to be with Michael.” No comment. Really. No comment.

Oh by the way the company’s name is, wait for it – Microsoft. Microsoft is the company we all love to hate. Maybe they thought that vomit would make us draw nearer.

“Vomit is not a widely used advertising hook,” said a Canadian Funding Corp representative on Thursday. “On the other hand, perhaps in this day and age, anything goes. I don’t want to let my mind go any further on the subject. It is rather unpleasant to say the least.”

The ad has now been removed from several source channels and sites. Canadian Funding Corp could have advised them ahead of time not to do it – but we weren’t asked. Perhaps the stuff that they were smoking in their pipe wouldn’t have made them amenable to reason in any case.

Guess what? As of this time you can see the ad on YouTube. We will spare you the pleasure of viewing it on our site.

A Microsoft source said, “While much of the feedback to this particular piece of creative was positive, some of our customers found it offensive, so we have removed it.” Big surprise!!!

Bradley and Montgomery, the agency responsible for the upchuck campaign still proudly displayed the ad on its own site as of today. No surprise! They are certainly proud of their work. Whatever.

They say that even this kind of advertising is positive for the company because it creates chatter. The truth is that, at Canadian Funding Corp, we purchase Microsoft products because we need them and now, more than ever, we wish we didn’t have to.

We also hope that the lady’s gastrointestinal sensitivities calm down. We did the research, we saw the video – on to something else.
